venturing from capitalism, nationalism to an arms race, did not completely cause World War One, they did complicate matters once war had begun. If the belligerent states involved in the war had not been so eager to fight a war then it could have been precluded. Sadly this was not the case and something that would not have started a war between so many countries twenty years before did "detonate the powder keg of Europe."
