There were several reasons why the Weimar Republic suffered opposition from the right wing. Many of the right-wing members preferred the Kaiser's Germany of a dictatorial state. They opposed democracy and desired to establish a conservative authoritarian regime, which included certain authoritarian traditions. It was introduced at a time of revolution and the reinforced dislike of the Socialists caused from the 'Stab-in-the-Back' myth made civilians associate the Republic with humiliation from the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. The Right-wing had caused many difficult situations for Ebert and the government. The Right desperately wanted Germany to return to the authoritarian state it had once been.
