William W. Brown, the author, describes the life of a slave in his narrative. Along with the narrative, there is a song that is representative of the slave woman's mourning. Women and children slaves were tortured, but even so they continued to stand proud. Brown speaks of all the things he experienced and it is shown in this piece, and his words allow you to create a mental picture of all that's occurring. The songs he uses in this piece really give you, as the reader, a feeling of having survived to slavery era. Although, is it really over? That's another paper.
