'Of Mice and Men', Steinbeck portrays a world dominated by powerful white able-bodied males. It is the views and opinions of this social type that permeate ranch society and those who come from outside these boundaries are ostracized and persecuted. At the end of this novel, two people did escape from this horrible world. They were Curley's wife and Lennie. They were the only people released from suffering and harshness of life. Steinbeck does show that the only way of escaping the harsh, callous society with no place for the weak was through death.
