Plebeians were the landless lower class, and were mostly all farmers. Equites were the middle class and were defined by, that they were able to provide their own horse in the army, and would make up the cavalry. With the expansion of the Roman Empire, the middle class profited to a great extent.
This was a very productive time period of roman history and can be seen as the first change towards modern day governments.
