The Gateway Arch
During a nationwide competition in 1947-48, architect Eero Saarinen's design a 630-foot stainless steel arch which
was chosen as a perfect monument to be built in St. Louis MO. Construction of the Arch began in 1963 and was
completed on October 28, 1965, for a total cost of less than $15 million. My paper is going to tell us about the
construction of the Gateway Arch, the materials and techniques used to build it, unique tram

This project would be very hard to build up to codes because after doing this I have found that the arch didn't
comply with allot of building codes. If this was to be built today I know that their would be a dramatic change in
the foundations and the walls of the arch.
