The Gateway Arch During a nationwide competition in 1947-48, architect Eero Saarinen's design a 630-foot stainless steel arch which was chosen as a perfect monument to be built in St. Louis MO. This project would be very hard to build up to codes because after doing this I have found that the arch didn't comply with allot of building codes. If this was to be built today I know that their would be a dramatic change in the foundations and the walls of the arch.
