Several weekends ago (October 5 and 6) the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority had a special open house in which the public was invited to see live turtles and to observe these creatures in their natural habitat. A rare albino turtle was on display in a cage and staff members were available to answer questions. More public education efforts like this are needed to pass on to children an appreciation for these amazing reptiles.
