Sports are no longer games played for fun. They are businesses that involve many millions
of dollars, and that have created three harmful myths in America: that they build bodies,
build character, and are a sure way to success.
Sports may build bodies, but they may also tear them down. The rough contact and
demanding schedules of major sports result in more and more serious injuries each year. Dave

entertainment (sports and show business) but not in more important fields such as politics or the
professions. No matter how far they go in sports, they will not be accepted outside them.
Financially, socially, and racially, sports come up short of their goal.
In all, sports present us with myths that are dangerous because they're attractive but not true.
They don't always build bodies, or character, or bring success.
