Reconstruction Era
The period, in which the United States began to rebuild and unify the Union from 1865 to 1877, was known as Reconstruction. Much of the early work of it dealt with the legal questions of bringing the defeated states back into the Union. In conclusion, Congress had the upper hand in the Reconstruction process. Confederate states were readmitted into the Union, but many problems still arose.
