The individuals that unswervingly align with either country or city are left behind by the novel, while those who adapt their perspectives, such as Jane, Bingley, Darcy, and Elizabeth, are rewarded in the end. Throughout the novel, Austen forces us to re-evaluate our own scales of city against country and virtue against vice. The result is a balanced picture of the two regions in which each is desirable on its own merits.
