Someone manipulating your weaknesses to their advantage can often bring about your downfall, especially when you consider yourself an outsider. In William Shakespeare's play, Othello, the main character is a black moor. Although some question remains about the exact race of Othello, there is no doubt that he considered himself an outsider. Othello is indeed a tragedy, with Othello's self-consciousness at its core as the tragic flaw. But it is the actions of the evil Iago that bring about Othello's downfall. In this circumstance I believe that it would be grossly unfair to blame Othello's downfall purely on how he believes that he is perceived by others.
