Have you ever seen on of the popular bumper stickers that proudly proclaim, "My child is an honor student at such and such school", or the responding sticker that says, "My kid beat up your honor student?" Ironically, the truth is much the opposite: while the chances of making it in professional sports are almost nil, a country with a giant system of public education and some of the best schools in the world can give the gift of intellectual pursuit to millions of people.
