About two million people of the population are affected by multiple personality disorder (What, 1995). In the U.S alone there are about 1.5 to two million people that are affected schizophrenia (Schizophrenia, 2001). As many people being affected by these two disorders, few people who know what the differences between the two are. There is a misconception that these disabilities are similar but they are not the same. Throughout my paper I will try to explain the

The two categories are labeled positive and negative symptoms (Tsuang & Faraone, 1997, p.22).
The positive symptom is also known as the acute syndrome or Type I schizophrenia, "The word positive is not used in a complementary way"(Harmon, 2000 p.37). It is more alarming then the other category of schizophrenia. The positive symptoms will increase an individual's activities. The person may have distorted thoughts and actions, which can last anywhere from one to six months (Harmon, 2000 p.37).
