Perhaps for this reason, Puck chooses him as the victim of his prank: he changes Bottom's head into that of a donkey. This is both a symbol of Bottom's character (he makes an ass of himself), and also a clever reversal of the figure in classic mythology with the upper half of a man and the lower half of a powerful beast.
