Kate Chopin Katherine O'Flaherty Chopin was born February 8, 1850 in St. Louis, MO. Where this causes a marital breakup in "The Awakening," the main character in "The Storm" emerges from her one-night stand refreshed, invigorated, and better than before. It may seem a little unrealistic, but it clearly reflects Chopin's sexually-liberated views. Kate Chopin wrote what she wanted to write and did not care who read it.
