Urban industrial economies were born in these areas and eventually spread around the world. This transformation, which is know as the Industrial Revolution, began when power-driven machinery in factories replaced work done by people; changing the way people have worked and lived for hundreds of years.

Landowners and other members of the aristocracy profited not only from the new large scale farming but also from overseas commerce. Industry provided the middle and aristocracy classes with new opportunities to invest their money in. by investing in growing industries, they had a really good chance of making a profit. Parliament encouraged investment by passing laws that helped the growing businesses.
