The Patriot is one of the only movies whose plot is based around the American Revolution, set in the colonial time period. With themes such as segregation, freedom, hate, family values, and war, the movie keeps the viewer totally enthralled the entire time with the different happenings in every scene. The Patriot was not about an individual shaping history, but rather the effects of events on people as a group. Benjamin and his militia depict how tragic and joyful life was during the Revolution. They, like all other true Americans, wanted their freedom and the ability to control themselves. To them, there was no alternative.
