Absolute prohibition against assisted-suicides is a violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It appears that the courts are subtly implementing their own methods of rationalizing assisted-suicides in the absence of formal laws (as shown in R. v. de la Rocha, and R. v. Morrison.) Perhaps some day in the near future the Canadian government will legalize euthanasia with morals that suit our society. It wont be an easy task due to the ethical and moral issues surrounding the topic in such a multi cultural society.
