However, the purpose of the spirit or mind is not limited to any functional operations of a united body and spirit. The mind is the source of one's individual ego or identity. This ego is distinct from the spirit of the infinite ego which is God. Therefore, another dualism exists in Descartes' view. This latter dualism distinguishes Descartes from the metaphysical view of Hegel.
