Throughout history many things have happened that were by many thought to be unconscionable. Yet, the people who were putting their mark of unacceptance upon those committing these thought to be deplorable acts, were unaware of the actual situations, and in many cases, committing the same acts themselves. This was true during the Holy Wars, the Crusades and similar events. Removing slavery from the southern way of life was crippling to the southerners. It took many years to reconstruct the south after the war. I am not trying to imply that it would be good if slavery was in place today, but the repercussions are still being felt to this day because of the abolition of the institution.
