In a more competitive environment these friendships are harder to come by. A welcoming healthy environment is not achieved through having a competitive environment. Rather an environment is created which students are less likely to help their peers, smarter students are resented and friends are hard to come by. All of these factors contribute in making a less than ideal learning atmosphere.
