During the second half of the 19th century France was home to many influential artists of the time. Along with the numerous impressionist painters such as Monet and Degas Aguste Rodin was establishing himself as one of the foremost sculptors of the time. The two pieces i have chosen are simply varying approaches of looking at the human form. Each artist has their own motives and influences and both pieces were created at very different times. For Rodin the concept of abstract art didn't really exist so he simply couldn't have perceived the human body in the same diverse way as Moore would have.
