ASME requires ethical practice by each of its members which I believe is a very important issue. I am currently not an ASME member, but I believe that any engineer should follow some sort of ethical principals in the career and their life. The first principal states "Engineers uphold and advance the integrity, honor and dignity of the engineering profession by using their knowledge and skill for the enhancement of human welfare." this ring is special. Every engineer receives a ring that is made from metal that come from a structure that has failed due to not following ethical principals. As I recall, the metal is from a failed bridge. This I think is very neat because it is a constant reminder to an engineer on a daily basis that we must follow ethical principals so that the safety of the public is never in harms way.
