Claude Monet Claude Monet was an Impressionist painter during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was an unswerving advocate of the Impressionist style, an attempt by artists to record visual reality using transient effects of light and color. After eye surgery, he took up his brush once again. During his later years, he produced a great deal of paintings. Many of them he determined were not good enough for the public and burned them. In 1926, he was still painted despite series problems with lung cancer. He died Dec 5 of that year.
