The great author Charlotte Perkins Gilman was born in Hartford, Connecticut, whom was the daughter of both Mary Westcott Perkins and Frederick Beecher Perkins. Gilman had a hard life; her father left the family after his child died in 1866. Mary Perkins, Gilman's mother lived alone with her children on the edge of poverty. Gilman had a novel that was unpublished for a couple of years, people referred to as a mystery novel. "The Feminist Press" published it in 1997. Gilman and her creative works were forgotten for many years until the feminist movement that occurred in the 1960s, it was the revived when people took interest in her and her work.
