Biography of Alfred Tennyson Alfred Tennyson was born into an old Lincolnshire family and was the fourth of twelve children. In 1865, his mother died which brought him great grief. In 1885, he published "Tiresias and other Poems." In 1892 Alfred died after a long illness. I believe that when Alfred wrote Break, Break, Break he was sad because of one of his lovedones died and he was writing about what he felt.
