The constitution provides that there is uniform commerce across states. Second, setting an example that states cannot do as they choose and must also abide by the constitution. The Supreme Court prevented discrimination based on origin, people should not pay more because they live in a different state. The Supreme Court prevented future problems while upholding the constitution.
