We should note that our theory is not intended to account for 1) mental imagery or the quasi-sensory experiences which are often a part of daydreaming (Singer & Antrobus, 1972; Singer, 1975), 2) the altered state of consciousness (called "fore-consciousness" by Varendonck, 1921) which often accompanies daydreaming, and 3) the subjective "feeling" of consciousness; see, for example, Nagel (1974) and Dennett (1978) for a discussion of the philosophical problems with such an endeavor.
